How small is a "Teacup" Puppy? Many people refer to "teacup" as a small sized dog. The Maltese are not like Poodles which have three different sizes: Toy, Miniature and Standard. All Maltese dogs are called Toy dogs no matter what there weight may be, not "Teacup". The AKC standard weight for a Maltese dog is 7 to 4 lbs but Overall quality is to be favored over size. The term "Teacup" is defined differently by different people because it is not an official term. To some people it may mean less than 15 lbs and to others it may mean less than 4 lbs. Be aware that a puppy estimated to be less than 4 lbs full grown is more likely to have health problems later in its life. |
